What is Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)?
IMS is a total system of diagnosis and treatment of neuropathic pain, a common form of which is myofascial pain. It is grounded in western medical science and has a remarkable success rate. A dry needling technique is used without injection of substances.
📍 It is a technique used in physiotherapy to treat persistent pain and muscle tension.
📍 It involves the use of acupuncture needles that are inserted into specific trigger points within the muscle to help release tension and reduce pain.
📍 The small wound increases circulation, telling the body to send blood and healing materials and encouraging the healing process along that tightened muscle bands.
📍 It can be effective in treating conditions such as persistent lower back pain, neck pain, and other musculoskeletal issues.
Does it hurt?
Since the intent is to stimulate the muscle into relaxation, there is often discomfort before the rush of pain relief—some people experience this right away in the session, while others experience the relief a few days later, in addition to increased movement and function of the muscles.
